Hi Bakerybabe!
Your screename gives me cravings! (LOL) I imagine since you've been told your body does not absorb Folic Acid that you may have diagnosed with MTHFR via a blood test. Is that correct? If so, most women are told that in addition to their prescribed Prenatal vitamin to take an additional 5mg of Folic Acid. Some women are prescribed a drug called Folgard which in addition to containing the extra amount of folic acid also contains two different B vitamins because those are also usually lacking in a women with MTHFR. Most RE's will also add a regimen of Baby Aspirin to their patient's protocol. Some doctors will also add Lovenox or Heparin as MTHFR causes the blood to clot more than it should and blood clotting can cause both implantation failure and loss.
As for the brittle hair, extra amounts of Folic Acid tend to make your hair dryer I've been told. Have you had your Thyroid levels checked? This can also affect your hair as well as implantation and successful pregnancy.
The most active board here is the "IVF Buddies" and we talk about a lot of these types of things over there so you may want to check that page out also.
Sorry to hear about your m/c and ectopic. I hope you have success in the future. Welcome to the boards!

I have been taking over-the-counter Prenatal vitamins for years and then switched to Rx versions over 6 months ago. I also was told I do not absorb Folic Acid so I am taking an additional 4 mg of Folic Acid. Having now had 2 miscarriages & most recently an ectopic pregnancy, I am concerned that my body is still not absorbing nutrients & could be a reason for my losses.
Has anyone else experienced hair loss & splitting/cracking/peeling finger nails while taking Pre-Natals? Has this lead to any discoveries? Resolutions?
Any thoughts/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
